Wecome to the 2013/14 Season
Sep 4, 2013, 7:42 pm

Things are warming up for the 2013/14 hockey season. Regisration should be mostly finished and plans should be laid for the teams competing in the various leagues around the EK, and the kids should be dusting off their brains and hockey equipment. This season we will see the introduction of no bodychecking in Peewee and below. The coach co-ordinator and referee in chief have begun the process of setting up clinics for this season. Check the BC Hockey website for details. Better yet follow BC Hockey on Facebook.

We are still looking for a District Director for the East Kootenays. Until we find someone our interests at BC Hockey will be looked after by June McKenzie in the West Kootenays.

If you know of anyone who may like to take on this job please forward their name and contact information to me and I will talk to them. I also have a job description I can send out.

I will be trying to put more info on the calendar this year so check back often.

Everyone have a great season!

BC Hockey AGM Sun Peaks Resort
Jun 9, 2013, 10:09 pm

This weekend the BC Hockey AGM was held at the Sun Peaks Resort just outside of Kamloops. There was a lot of great information provided and ample opportunity to meet other members from all districts. On of the highlights was the election of John Gillen as Director at Large. John has been the distrct director for the EK for 6 years. He will now be expected to take on a larger role in BC Hockey. Unfortunately we now need to find a District Director for the EK. If you know of anyone who might be interested please get in touch with me.

It is interesting to note that we share many concerns but the scale is different in other parts of the province. I hope that in the coming season all of the associations from our district will consider sending a member to the next AGM which will be held in Penticton next June. BC Hockey will be making funds available from a small windfall so that all associations will have the opportunity to have one member subsidized to attend.

I have brought the tie breaking procedure to the website so that it is accessable for the banner playoffs.

5.22 Tie Breaking Procedure

In the event Teams are tied for a playoff position after a Round Robin series is completed, the following procedure shall be utilized to determine the placing of the tied teams:

a) If two (2) teams are tied, the winner of the Round Robin game between those two (2) teams will receive the higher placing. If three (3) or more teams are tied, the team which has accumulated the most points in games against the tied teams will receive the highest placing, the team with the next most points in games against the tied teams will receive the next highest placing, and so on.

b) If any teams remain tied after (a) has been applied, then the Team with the most wins in the round robin series (note that this includes all games in the round robin series and is not limited to games between the

tied teams only) will receive the higher placing, and so on.

c) If any teams remain tied after (a) and (b) have been applied, then the team with the best goal average in games between the tied teams will receive the higher placing, and so on. The goal average of a team is to be determined by dividing the total number of goals for and against into the total number of goals for, with the Team having the highest percentage will be awarded the higher position. (Example: Goals for 10, goals against 4; percentage is 10/14 = .714).

d) If any teams remain tied after (a), (b) and (c), the team that received the least minutes in penalties in the round robin games between the tied teams will receive the higher placing, and so on.

e) If teams are still tied after all previous methods have been applied, then the winner of the playoff position will be decided by the toss of the coin.
